A key part of our work is the efficient and effective collection of local council tax and national non-domestic rates. These taxes help to pay for the services and facilities we provide. We also collect local taxes on behalf of East Sussex County Council, the Sussex Police Authority and town and parish councils.

We aim to keep collection costs low to the vast majority of taxpayers who pay on time by adopting a fair but firm approach to those who do not. We are also responsible for the administration and payment of housing benefit and council tax benefit. We work hard to ensure our benefits service is quick and efficient and strive to prevent and detect fraud.
