We are committed to meeting the equality responsibilities given to us by the Government, especially in relation to race, disability, gender, age, sexuality and religion or belief. The Equality Schemes we have implemented are in accordance with the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, the Disability Discrimination Act (2005) and the Equality Act (2006). The Schemes fulfil our specific duty under the Acts and complement the other objectives in our Comprehensive Equality Policy (see Relevant Documents below). To demonstrate our commitment , both the lead Cabinet member for Staff and Corporate Services and the Chief Executive have responsibility for leading the Council's equality agenda. Equalities Working GroupThis group is made up of members of staff and departmental representatives and meets regularly. The work they do helps to meet the requirements of the Equality Schemes. It also contributes to reaching the Equality Standard for Local Government, which is a framework for achieving levels of equality in delivering services and in employment. See the 'Relevant Documents' section of this page for more information.
