Council Tax is based on the value of your property. Each domestic property in Lewes District has been classified into one of eight valuation bands, based on its capital value (market value) as at 1 April 1991. The tax is collected by Lewes District on behalf of East Sussex County Council, Sussex Police and the Parish and Town Councils throughout the district to help pay for the services that each of these Authorities provide. How much will I pay?The amount of Council Tax to be charged for each property in the district is set locally. It depends on how much the local authorities and certain other public bodies in the area wish to spend and how much money they get from other sources. The amount you have to pay (before any reductions) also depends on which valuation band your home is in. The lower the band the less you will pay. Each home has been banded according its capital value as at 1 April 1991 (see below).
