Hospitality businesses across the Lewes District which have a commitment to sourcing local produce are invited to apply to become a ‘Sussex Breakfast’ provider.

An accredited Sussex Breakfast contains at least 60% local, seasonal ingredients and must include free range eggs, free range or low intensive, barn reared pork sausages and bacon and at least four other ingredients. Creative vegetarian options, for example using Sussex Halloumi can also be included. Other quality ingredients may include seasonal apple juice, homemade marmalades and preserves or fresh milk from a small local dairy – all quality ingredients sourced direct from Sussex producers or purchased from farm shops supplied by local farmers and craft processors.

Establishments displaying the Sussex Breakfast logo have passed a free audit guaranteeing they are serving at least 60% of locally sourced, ethically produced ingredients. A Sussex Breakfast means shorter supply chains, reduced food miles and adds to the area’s distinctiveness for visitors.

The Sussex Breakfast is a Sussex Tourism Partnership initiative supported by Lewes District Council and the local authorities of East and West Sussex, A Taste of Sussex and the Nethercote Centre for Sustainable Food and Farming to promote the delicious, local and seasonal produce found across Sussex.
