7 October 2008: Get your electric blanket tested free of charge

Lewes District Council is keen to make sure residents keep warm and safe this winter. With about 1,000 fires a year caused by faulty electric blankets the Council, in partnership with the Primary Care Trust, is hosting an Electric Blanket testing week in October.

All blankets that are brought to the venues will be tested and if they have a fault that is repairable they will be fixed, with the repair carried out on the day. If the blanket is considered to be too dangerous the plug is cut off making the blanket unusable. The owner will be offered a voucher valued at 50% towards the cost of a new blanket.

The dates and venues are:
Monday 20 October         The Enterprise Centre, Denton Island, Newhaven
Tuesday 21 October        Seaford Town Council, 37 Church Street, Seaford
Wednesday 22 October   The Foyer, Meridian Centre, Peacehaven
Thursday 23 October       Lewes District Council, Southover House, Southover Rd,  Lewes
           
The event which will run from 10.00am until 4pm on each of the above dates will also be attended by a variety of agencies offering help and advice on home security, fire safety, energy efficiency, renewable energy and home repairs grants.

Lewes District Council will offer a collection and return service for those residents in the rural parts of the District who are unable to attend the event.
