Waste and Recycling teams improve efficiency

Lewes District Council Waste and Recycling teams have been working hard to improve efficiency and increase performance in a number of different ways including:

• Cutting costs by jointly purchasing our new vehicle fleet with a neighbouring District Council
• Lower costs through improved contracts with suppliers for vehicle maintenance
• Increased efficiency through the front door refuse collection service which has saved the use of two vehicles and a crew
• Getting the best market price for the recycling materials we collect

This has resulted in the cost of the recycling and household waste collection per household falling from £49.99 per year to £44.88 per year and some of this resource will be put back into further improving services.

Councillor Eddie Collict, Lead Member for Environment said, 'I am very pleased with the savings made and am sure that with the continued hard work and dedication of our staff we will continue to improve our services and make them even more efficient in the future.'
