Designed by Lewes District Council’s design team and constructed from locally sourced sustainable green oak, the boards give information about the ecology, geology and management of this dynamic nature reserve. The boards are located in the Castle Hill car park, near Fort Road, and at the West Beach Newhaven, to the north and south of the site respectively. Lewes District Council Community Ranger Dan Ross said “it is vitally important that local people can understand the importance of their local environment, and Castle Hill Local Nature Reserve is a popular site with the community. These information boards will help provide some useful background information, as well as advise on how they can get involved in helping to look after the area through volunteering”. Castle Hill Nature Reserve is owned by Lewes District Council and managed in partnership between Lewes District Council and Castle Hill Nature Reserve Volunteers. It is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Site of Nature Conservation interest, reflecting the importance of geology, ecology and cultural history.
